Stranger than Fiction

July 28th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I hate Will Farrell.  I think he is a waste of space.  He isn’t funny. He only plays one character.  He is not an actor.  This is what I would have said two days ago.  Then I watched Stranger than Fiction, one of Will Farrell’s most interesting movies yet.  He was actually quite good.  He surprised me.  Emma Thompson plays this wonderful character, a novelist trying to write her masterpiece, which just so happens to be about Will’s character.  Will is a number-counting boring IRS agent who finds out he is about to die.  He seeks out a literary professor, played by Dustin Hoffman.  Most of the film is him trying to figure out if he is in a comedy or a tragedy.  He also has a love interest, a baker who he is sent to audit.  All in all it was an actually really great story.  There were a bunch of inconsistencies and goofs during the movie, but I love the plot and I giggled.  I would say it is a good family film if all kids were over 13.  I would give it a 8 out of 10.  It wasn’t awesome, just surprisingly good.

On another note, I absolutely LOVE Emma Thompson! She was amazing in this film and also in Love Actually! Brilliant author!  Queen Latifah was also in the film and she was a brilliant supporting actress to Emma.  I loved the ending.  Good movie.  I would buy it.. which says alot.. cuase I still hate Will Farrell.
